Do you have any household items that are in good condition but you no longer need?

We offer a free collection service across all of Dorset and the west of Hampshire, regardless of your council area. Collections are arranged by postcode and carried out by teams from our three locations at Bournemouth, Dorchester and Poole. You are also welcome to bring your items directly to us if you are able. Speak to a member of our team at you nearest branch who will be happy to explain your options or complete the short contact form and we will come back to you as quickly as we can.

What do we collect?

Our only requirement is that any item needs to be fit to pass on to another family and if it is upholstered, it needs to have the relevant fire label attached. If you’re not sure, or have unusual item you’re not sure what to do with, do get in touch. Also if you have a range of items, some in great condition and others not so, contact your nearest depot in the first instance and they will help organise a mixed collection/disposal for you.

Donation FAQs

We take everything it takes to make a house a home – furniture, electricals, soft furnishings, kitchenware, pictures & mirrors, items for the garden and clothing.

Usually we expect items such as bunk beds to be dismantled on arrival, as the van crews are very busy and have a lot of jobs every day, but speak to our reception teams when you book if this will cause you a problem.
We will usually collect from inside your home and from upstairs as long as access allows. There are a few exceptions with very large or heavy items so ask about this when you book.
We can disconnect your washing machine or electric cooker as long as the connections are standard and in good condition. We do not disconnect any gas appliances.
If you can donate your item and sign a gift aid form, it costs you only a signature and allows us to claim money from the tax office, making your donation even more valuable to us. As long as you are a UK taxpayer on your salary or pension, it raises a further 20% for the charity.

Gift Aid

Dorset Reclaim is registered for Gift Aid which means that for every £1 we charge, we can claim 25p from HMRC (Inland Revenue) at no cost to you. As your furniture or appliance will be passed on to our clients at a low price, Gift Aid helps cover our running costs, hence your donation goes that little bit further.

The only requirement for you to be able to sign a Gift Aid Form is that you are currently paying tax in the UK, either on your salary or on your savings.

As a registered charity, it would help us greatly if you could complete a Gift Aid Form when donating.

Sorry, sometimes we may not be able to help…

Very occasionally, we may not be able to collect certain items offered to us for example:

  • We may have run out of storage space in our branches, or simply because we have too many items of a particular type.
  • We have to comply with Trading Standards regulations, and for example, we may not be able to take sofas and chairs which don’t have the Fire Safety label secured if they were made after 1950.
  • Other items such as bunk beds and heaters are also subject to regulations, so we may have to ask you questions about the items you are offering.

Please accept our apologies if we have to refuse any item offered at certain times and we will always try to offer you an alternative solution.
